Canadian skier Nick Zoricic died of head injuries resulting from a crash at Grindel.

Sarah Burke, from Canada, one of the greatest skiers of her generation, died due to a
serious head injury she suffered on January 11.  The injury occurred while she was training for the
gravity-defying superpipe – an event that defined her career – at Park City in Utah. The 29-year old
had torn her vertebral artery and suffered "irreversible damage to her brain".

October 19, 2010 - NFL
Three NFL players were fined a total of $175,000 by the league for dangerous and flagrant hits in league games on October 17.
Future incidents by any players are subject to suspensions.

October 18, 2010 - NFL
David Garrard, quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, suffered a concussion in the second quarter in the game with the
Tennessee Titans.

October 17, 2010 - NFL
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson and Atlanta Falcons cornerback
Dunta Robinson suffered concussions in head-on collision.

Zack Follett, a Detroit Lions linebacker, had a violent helmet-to-helmet hit with
Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants and was hospitalized with concerns
regarding possible cervical spine injuries.

Cleveland Browns’ wide receivers Joshua Cribbs and Mohamed Massaquoi suffered a
concussion after helmet-to-helmet hits by the Pittsburgh Steelers' James Harrison.

Chris Cooley, a Washington Redskins tight end, suffered a concussion in the Indianapolis Colts game.

Baltimore Ravens’ tight end Todd Heap received a concussion after a helmet-to-helmet hit from Brandon Meriweather of the New
England Patriots.

October 16, 2010 - NCAA Football
Eric LeGrand, a Rutgers University football player, was paralyzed from the neck down
during the game with Army. LeGrand’s injury is a fracture at the third and fourth cervical
vertebrae. An optimistic prognosis is that LeGrand’s recovery is similar to former
Buffalo Bills player Kevin Everett who was able to walk again four months after breaking
his neck during a NFL game in 2007.  

October 4, 2010 - NFL
New York Giants linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka will visit a neck specialist Monday to get a second opinion on the bulging disk in his
neck.

December 31, 2009 - Snowboarding
Snowboarder Kevin Pearce sustained a massive head injury while training in
Park City, Utah. He slammed face-first into an icy 22-foot wall of a halfpipe while
working on the double cork. Since then, Pearce has been going through rehabilitating
brain and spinal cord therapy.
